Why I love my Rothy’s

Why I love my Rothy’s

I don’t know when I turned into the kind of person that buys one in every color when she finds something she loves, but… that’s me now, I guess. I wanted to share my Rothy’s review, because I know a lot of you see Rothy’s pop up on social media and in ads all over the place and wonder if they’re worth it.

Personally, I think Rothy’s are totally worth it, even though the price tag can be a little surprising for some. I own four pairs – two pairs of The Point, one pair of The Flat and one pair of The Loafer. My favorite of the four is definitely my leopard Points, but I wear all four nonstop!

Rothy’s Review: A few tips before you order

  • I would size up at least 1/2 a size. I sized up from an 8.5 to a 9 in the Point, and they were perfect. I have a pair in my true size, too, and they are great but not quite as comfortable.
  • If you have an issue with your order, their customer service is the absolute best. I ordered a pair of the Flats after Christmas as a gift to myself, and they sent me the wrong size and style. I reached out to them and not only did they overnight the correct pair to me, they also refunded my money! I was so surprised and taken aback.

1 – You can throw your Rothy’s in the washing machine.

As you may have noticed from the picture above, my Rothy’s have been through quite a bit this summer. I wore them all week long in San Diego and then immediately threw them in the washing machine when we got home. You’d have no idea I was trekking through the wet sand in La Jolla!

Rothy’s wash up so nicely and easily. Take the soles out and toss both the shoe and the sole in the washing machine (I wash mine with towels, usually) with detergent on a delicate, cold setting. Don’t dry them in the dryer, and they’ll air dry overnight. Boom! Back to normal.

I mention this below but they do get a little smelly and don’t always come completely un-smelly after a wash – add some baking soda before you wash them and let it sit for a bit, and you’ll be rolling.

2 – Rothy’s are the absolute best travel shoe.

It is so easy to take Rothy’s on and off, so they’re great for airports. Plus, the sole isn’t slick. I did almost bust my butt in a restaurant that forgot a wet floor sign while we were in San Diego, but otherwise, we were climbing all over the place in the tide pools near the Cabrillo Monument and running all over the San Diego Zoo, too.

I brought a few pairs of shoes with me on the trip but only wore one pair – my leopard Rothy’s! You can easily do that, because they are versatile and cute. I wish I had Rothy’s when I traveled for work because even when my feet and ankles swell up, I’m comfy and cute.

3 – Rothy’s are made from recycled water bottles.

If you care about sustainability – and who doesn’t, these days? – this is a really great feature. Rothy’s also mails the shoes in very basic packaging, so no packaging guilt!

Plus, the material is breathable. Bonus!

4 – I can wear these all day long without any rubbing, friction or sweating.

I don’t know exactly what it is about the fabric of Rothy’s, but I can wear these all day long without any of the rubbing or friction that I experience with other shoes. I have very sensitive skin on my feet and rub blisters easily – not just on my heels but on my toes and the balls of my feet, too. Any shoe I wear for more than 8-10 hours or for a lot of walking will cause at least some blisters.

My feet were certainly sore after 6 hours and 10,000+ steps at the San Diego Zoo, but I didn’t have any of the blisters or raw spots that I have worn in other shoes.

I can’t wait to try out my Rothy’s in Disney World this year. I already know that it will be a total game-changer.

5 – People stop you to compliment your shoes – nonstop.

We were waiting in line for the ski lift at the San Diego Zoo when a woman tapped me on the shoulder and asked, “Are those Rothy’s?” When I nodded, she immediately said, “Is it true?”

Yes, it’s true!

People recognize them on the street, which is always fun. But even the people who don’t recognize Rothy’s always stop me to compliment my shoes. I don’t live for compliments, obviously, but it’s always nice to look pulled together from head to toe.

Rothy’s Review: A few cons to keep in mind

  • I’ve found that my Rothy’s get a little stinkier than other similar shoes and hold the smell even after getting washed. Baking soda takes the scent out pretty quickly, though, so as long as you occasionally use baking soda, you won’t have a problem.
  • You do have to size up, in my personal opinion. If you don’t, they do not stretch out.
  • The soles are completely flat, so if you need arch support, you might need to add inserts.
